Breaking the Prevalence, Ending the Violence: A Call for a Safe Philippines for Our Children

The 2024 National Children's Month theme “Break the Prevalence, End the Violence: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Philippines,” is an important reminder of the need to tackle the problems bedeviling the children in the society. Violence against children is pervasive in many forms and ranges from physical abuse, emotional, sexual abuse, neglect as well as exploitation. Such acts do not only breach their rights but also most importantly prevent them from developing into healthy productive individuals raised in a conducive environment.

Making a child-friendly safe Philippines entails a lot of things. Different stakeholders such as families, schools and the pacific and safe communities should come together and most importantly create an environment where children feel safe and cared for. This means that the relevant government sectors should implement also protective and aside social strategies such as the Anti-Child Abuse law, the Trafficking preventing Act, anti child marriages, and all other policies that protect the wellbeing of children. However, those campaigns can also seek to educate people on the ways in which abuse can be recognized and how it can be averted. Such programs that enable children to speak out on issues and educate them on not just their concerns but their rights are very important towards stopping the culture of violence.

As we commemorate this month as National Children’s Month, it will help to note that children’s protection is everybody’s concern. As nurturers of compassion, vigilance and accountability, we will build the Philippines in such a way that no child will live in fear, all aspirations shall be attainable and in the end dreams will be achieved. No More Violence and Together We Can Make A Safe Environment For The Next Generation.
